Rumination involves a repetitive and passive focus on thoughts. Some view rumination as a useful practice, helping to gain understanding of events and assisting with progress towards goals, others consider rumination to be a maladaptive style of thinking, as evidenced by its association with psychological disorders, particularly depression.
